We recently featured Jessica's beautiful maternity session, which was styled by her sister Aracely Baltodano of Minted and Vintage to reflect their Mexican heritage. They continued that same theme for the baby shower, which was so vibrant, cheerful, and festive! "My sisters baby shower was inspired by her love for our traditional festive Mexican parties. From the beginning she told me she wanted to make sure she opened her gifts on a traditional baby shower chair, you know those old school wicker ones that are dressed to the nines in tulle, ribbons, and bows? I knew where her mind was going but I had to make sure it was all done in good taste of course!"
"While I didn't quite use the standard 'fiesta' decorations found in party supply stores, I made sure we kept it authentically true to our culture. We used bright and colorful handmade decorations you'll easily find in Tijuana."
"Our most favorite part of the shower was the bright and colorful dessert table! It was quite the stunner! Everyone oohed and aahed upon entering the room. The amazingly beautiful floral backdrop was handmade by Tania Fischer of Tania Fisher Design, who also designed the baby shower invitations and printables. We rented a sparkly gold sequin table linen from The Candy Crush Shop that topped it all off."
"For the baked goods, I contacted my good friend Mallory from The French Confection Co. to make the main cake topped with adorable gold glittered fondant mary janes, papel picado fondant banner, and a cluster of rice paper flowers. She also made yummy mini churro cupcakes, papel picado topped cupcakes, and colorful buttercream rose cupcakes. The morning of the shower I purchased Mexican sweet bread from local panaderias (bakeries) around town. I also served some arroz con leche pudding in individual shot glasses for a pretty presentation."
"The table also included Mexican candies like Mazapan, ollitas de tamarindo (tamarind candy pots), colorful sour sugar cups, and tamales de tamarindo, that I purchased on my trip to Tijuana. I found all of the candy at El Mercado Hidalgo, it’s a plaza full of different little shops where you can find party supplies like piñatas, candy, and decorations.
"Lastly, I just had to have some colorful floral jellos on my table. This is a HUGE trend in Mexico right now, and I searched high and low to find them locally. I was lucky enough to find them at a local bakery in Orange County called La Poblana Bakery, these jellos tasted as delicious as they looked."
"Handmade tissue paper flowers, papel picado banners, fringe piñatas, talavera piggy banks, these were all beautiful decorations we used to dress up the tables and room. We modge podged and gold glittered empty Modelo beer bottle (thanks to the boys at our family parties) and used them as vases for the handmade tissue paper flowers we crafted. We also took mini donkey piñatas and spray painted them gold and embellished them with tissue paper flowers and a pink bow!"
