When it comes to themed parties, people often get overwhelmed just at the thought of it. But with the pressure of Pinterest, people are pushing themselves to throw elaborate parties at any occasion, nonetheless. I happen to enjoy planning and throwing parties and recently had the honor of throwing a woodland baby shower for a dear friend of mine who is expecting her second baby boy this spring. The great thing about a woodland themed shower is that it’s pretty neutral and can be done for both boys and girls, or if the parents are choosing not to reveal the gender. The whole shower was planned and executed with help from my two friends, but no outside professional help. Read on to see how you too can throw this fabulous woodland baby shower all by yourself!
Woodland Baby Shower Table Setting:
If you are short on space, like we were, the best seating scenario is long rectangular tables with chairs on both sides. We were able to seat 24 people easily with just four standard-sized folding tables (although you could seat as many as 32 with this same table arrangement). We covered the tables with white linen tablecloths (highly recommend to just buy your own then rent them! Just 2 uses pays for itself) and laid a burlap runner in the middle for a more decorative and earthy feel.
We decorated the tables with wood slices (that were later repurposed for our Easter Table Decor!), moss that was purchased at Dollar Tree, pinecones, decorative porcelain birds that I had from a previous baby shower I threw, candles, and flower arrangements that I put together myself using clear round vases purchased at the Dollar Tree, baby’s breath, and pine branches.
The venue at which we chose to throw the baby shower fit in with our color scheme perfectly so we did very minimal decor around the dessert table. The wreath above was done with christmas tree trimmings and tied together with string and pinned to the wall. The moss letters were a DIY project done with cardboard letters that can be purchased at any craft store for $2.99/piece. Just spray the letters with adhesive and attach moss.
All my apothecary vases were purchased at Michael’s using their 40% off coupons and ended up costing me $15-$20/each. I’ve been collecting these vases over the years and get a LOT of use out of them (like for my easter table and this airplane birthday party) so I would highly recommend investing in these if you throw a lot of parties yourself. They are so versatile, and when I am not using them for parties, I use them as decorative pieces around my house!
We made little acorns for dessert by “gluing” a nutter butter mini to a chocolate kiss on one side and a mini chocolate chip on the other end with some melted chocolate. For variety, we also served little “orezhki” pastries, macarons (purchased at Trader Joes), as well as powdered and glazed donut holes (because they matched our color theme and looked so cute in a vase!).
The semi naked cake and salted caramel cupcakes were made by me (find instructions for how to make this cake HERE). We decided to go with a half naked cake for a rustic natural look and decorate it with moss and some woodland creatures.
In my many years of throwing parties, I’ve found the best way to make it stress free is by asking a couple friends to co-host. We get together, come up with a theme, guest list, food menu, decor, etc. I like to take it a step further and write out exactly how we plan on decorating (sometimes even sketch it out!), that way, at the time of set-up, I simply refer to my notes and go from there. It makes things run so much smoother! Once decor and everything else has been figured out, we divide up our responsibilities so we all know what we are in charge of and what we are bringing. This takes the stress off of just one person and the weight of the party lies on a couple of people to pull through. This also helps with the cost of the party tremendously! Planning a big party can sometimes be stressful, especially if you have never done it before, so don’t be afraid to ask someone to help you out, and have fun while you’re at it!
